Would You Let Your Teen Use Drugs?

By March 17, 2009

I've recently gotten some feedback about my article on Salvia divinorum. Much to my overwhelming amazement, I've been chastised that I am against the use of Salvia in teens. I'm not sure the point of view that these comments are coming from, but I am shocked nonetheless.

I love teens! They see life with a fresh perspective, and they have an enthusiasm for life that is infectious. This is in part due to their growing and developing brain that isn't cluttered up with the life experiences that adults have. Teens can see life for what it could be - and each one of us could learn a lesson from that optimism.

On the other hand, a growing brain is a vulnerable brain. The use of drugs or alcohol in teens should never be condoned, in part because there is no way of knowing how they can damage this wonderful, evolving brain. I'd love to hear from parents who feel differently - I'd like the chance to change your mind.
