Guide Review - 101 Natural Healthy Eating Tips by Emily Davidson

101 Natural Healthy Eating Tips by Emily Davidson

This slim book offers families and individuals a look at what our diets ought to look like, and why. It starts out describing, in one or two page "tips", the building blocks of our diet. No carbohydrates aren't bad, but refined carbs are. Fat is important, but choose your fats wisely. The book discusses each food group and its role in our diet. This may sound dry, but her information is important and dispels the myths we've learned through fad diets.

The book continues on to describe how our diet impacts our immune system and overall wellness. Although I can not directly speak to each and every point that it made, there is a good bit of science that suggests that our modern diet full of sugars (particularly high fructose corn syrup), refined carbohydrates, saturated fats and chemicals is having a negative impact on our health. There is also mention of the conditions the animals used for meat are exposed to, and how that can affect the health of the person who eats it. These are important issues that everyone needs to be aware of to be more savvy consumers. The book finishes up with miscellaneous tips on buying organic, vegetarianism, healthy cooking tips and even some recipes.

Overall, a well written and important book on how changing our eating habits can change our health. It might seem overwhelming to try all of the tips at first, but focus on one or two and see how it goes. It may take a while to switch your family to whole grain pasta and more veggies, but even a small change counts!
